The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act 2005) is
an act to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information
for citizen to secure access to information under the control of public
authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working
of every public authorities. It is not a mere statutory right created by the
Right to Information Act. It is essentially a fundamental right guaranteed by
the Constitution of India. It is seen by many as the key to strengthening participatory
democracy and ensuring more people -centered development.
