About UGC NET/JRF Examination - Paper-I

Paper-I of UGC NET/JRF Examination shall be of general nature, intended to assess teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

The main objective of Paper I is to assess the teaching and research capabilities of the candidates. Therefore, the test is aimed at assessing the teaching and general/research aptitude as well their awareness. The candidates are expected to possess and exhibit cognitive abilities. Cognitive abilities include comprehension, analysis, evaluation, understanding the structure of arguments and deductive and inductive reasoning. The candidates are also expected to have a general awareness and knowledge of sources of Information They should be aware of interaction between people, environment and natural resources and their impact on quality of life.  The questions will be asked from the following topics.

Questions will be asked from nature, objectives, characteristics and basic requirements of teaching, learner’s characteristics, factors affecting teaching, methods of teaching, teaching aids, evaluation systems, etc.

A passage to be set with questions to be answered. 

  1. Reasoning 
Questions will be asked from mathematical reasoning, logical reasoning and analytical reasoning like number series, letter series, codes, deductive and inductive reasoning, verbal analogies, logical diagrams, venn diagram etc.
